Pho-nomenal

Hehe.

I know, my post sounds very pho-real like that.

I'm giggly. Maybe caused by carb overdose of some very good pho last night. I may even go as far to say the best pho I've had all my life.

Of course, Starr and gang, I'm hoping you'll prove me wrong when I get back to KK, but really, for now, this is the best pho, bar none.

Made lovingly by my beloved Dr. D, here are some pics to whet your appetite. Taken with stylistic intentions with my toy cam app.

I'm sticking to my S90 for blog pictures from now on...

Appreciation Party #2 - Sunday Eats

In an attempt to get me out of the dumps cos I was so envious of the little party my loved ones were having in KL without me, Super Hubs knew the only way to make me happy was through my stomach.

As you all know by now, in my opinion he is the best chef in the world, but even with his talents, he can't reproduce the dishes that could satiate my desire and yearning for greasy, oily, fiery, yummy Malaysian hawker food.

So he did the next best thing. And I got oysterssss for dinner.

 24 gorgeous little beauties.

My shucker with my dinner.

Nah!
Who cares about curry mee and hokkien mee now?!

And here begins the guide to eating oysters MY way.
Step 1: Take a succulent piece of heaven and put on your plate.

Step 2: Squeeze some lemon juice on said piece of heaven and also top it with some lovingly made shallot and vinaigrette sauce.

Step 3: Pour heavenly mixture on a piece of bread and butter.

Step 4: Get ready to have a taste of heaven.

Home, clothes and food

We've been crazy busy sorting out our shipment arriving from Shanghai, whilst excitedly Ikea-shopping and d.i.y-ing to make our home nice for Mi and Kesh' visit.
The weather's also been sucky, so to get my mood up, I've taken to prancing around at home in flowery tops while sorting through my 22 boxes of very smelly clothing, shoes and books which seems to have sucked in all the stinky scents from Shanghai to Luxembourg.

Top, MNG.
Assorted small bracelets from KL and rose quartz bracelet from Shanghai.
Earrings, I forget from where.

Also helping to keep my energy and spirits up is my comfort food:

A huge bowl of wild rice,

topped (or rather flooded) with my home-cooked, Europe-improvised daal.

Roma in Luxembourg

Restaurant Roma, that is.

We went for lunch with Dr. D on the weekend at one of his fave Italian restaurants in town. And before I go on about the restaurant, let me tell you about how much Dr. D knows his food. He loves his food, and wouldn't hesitate to hop over to say, San Sebastian or Berlin for a weekend to try out the city's current best restaurants with his wife, mdm M. And they've been doing this for more than 30 years.

I first met them the first week we got into Luxembourg, when Super Boss decided to invite all his good friends and food connoisseurs to try out William's cooking. I was sat right smack in between Dr. D, and another globe-trotting foodie chap, Mr. J, and they had me sweating buckets as they compared notes about the Michelin starred restaurants they'd been to, as we waited for dinner to be served. What was even more initimidating was that they not only knew tons about the best places to eat all over Europe, but they were also quite knowledgeable (and had been to) quite a few of the restaurants in our part of the world - Malaysia, Thailand, China, Cambodia... You get my drift.

I was very relieved when they were impressed with Super Hubby's dishes, and managed to relax enough to act normally, and enjoy the night. Since then, we've hung out often, and I always look to Dr. D and Mdm M for food recommendations, and general fun stuff to do in Luxembourg.

Now back to Restaurant Roma. This is going to be a short review because we only had a dish each (lunch had to be light cos we were looking at a very heavy dinner), but I promise this won't be the last review as it was so good that Super Hubby is already planning our next visit back there.

This was the dish that stole Super Hubby's heart.
In his words, "The best tomato mozzarella salad EVER!".
Seems even the dressing for the leaves were perfection.

Dr. D's Spaghetti Vongole. Looked very fresh and delish.
And I wanted to grab the plate from Dr. D after he finished the pasta, especially when he started mopping up the juices with a piece of bread.

My ravioli with ricotta cheese, and pumpkin sauce.
This was the reason we came here in the first place, cos when asked what I felt like for lunch, the only thing that came to my hangover-ed mind was: something creamy, rich and carb-filled.
And it was a dream!  But William stole 3 pieces from me.
Which made it feel like I didn't have enough, and I had to get an ice cream cone afterwards to make myself feel better.

Total damage for these three dishes, a bottle of sparkling water (for the men), a bottle of still water (for me), and a latte (for William): 69.70 euro.

According to Super Hubby, we're going back this weekend for his salad. Me, I'm gonna try the Spaghetti Vongole.

Address: 5 Rue de Louvigny, 1946 Luxembourg

Never too hot for curry

Summer is officially in town.

Yesterday, the sun was out and shining so brightly, and my body immediately went into an intense craving for some good ol Indian food. (remember my most fave Nirwana in Bangsar? And Raju's in PJ? How I used to slurp and sweat in the sweltering heat so happily?)

So, with the help of google, I tracked down what was said to be "the best" Indian food in Luxembourg, and dragged Super Hubby to accompany me. His insistence of "It's too hot for curry!" was met with my very pitiful "but i want to..." And who can say no to my insistent nagging sweet pleas?

Address and number for anyone who's interested.

It was very very very satisfactory. I had the Dal, which I banjir-ed my rice with (8.50 euros), and Boo had the Garlic Chicken Curry (15 euros), and Paratha (3 euros), and we both shared a Raita (5 euros). The servings were also good, and I had enough to tapao home for my dinner.

And some water to wash it all down (5 euros).

My sweet date.

p/s. Internet at home is down, and I am back at the hotel office. Argh!

Auberge de La Gaichel

Yesterday, Marc arrived from Corsica.

So, today, we brought them for a welcome/ Father's day lunch at the Auberge de La Gaichel, a restaurant on the border of Brussels and Luxembourg.

It was a super duper lunch,
and this restaurant's gonna be part of my must-go's for anyone who visits me here!

So quaint and homey.

Very fabulous bread and William's entree that I gobbled down.

This was what all of us had. A thick, beautiful and hearty slab of meat each.
The main reason why I'll be going back again.
The Luxembourgish Entrecote de Bouef, served with champignon sauce and frites (fries).

Rating: Two thumbs up
Price: 174.50 euro (For 5 beef sets, 1 cheese salad, 1 bacon and goat cheese salad, 1 large bottle of still water, 1 coca cola, 1 bottle of rose, 5 coffees)

Sundays are Super

Today was a very nice day.

The sun was finally out after a week of rain. (by the way, summer does not seem to show signs of showing up. The weather teases me by appearing warm for ONE day, then as I move out my summery florals, I suddenly am forced to cover my pretty self up with my hideous black jacket again to avoid getting frostbite).

The past two weeks I have been stubborn though. Even knowing that the temperature will most probably drop to less than 10 degrees at night, I still insist on wearing cottons and jerseys and singlets when I step out of the house. I mean, it's SUPPOSED to be summer, dammit. I do carry the huge jacket in my huge bag though, just in case.

Anyway, the weather today was SUPER! So I looked cute ;)

And we decided to check out Remich, a small and pretty commune in Luxembourg with a river about 20 minutes away from the city centre.
We took a walk, took some pictures, and took off back home.
It wasn't very exciting, yet I guess quite exciting by Luxembourg standards.
There were actually lotsa cars and people!!!! And even a small little traffic jam!!!

At home, we did the family thing, and while Super Hubby cleaned! the apartment, I cooked,
and we managed to have dinner just before the Germany vs Australia match started.
William was very pleased with the 4-0 score.
(by the way, my salad dressing was in my opinion very very very delish.
I used avacado, maggi soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, olive oil and some sugar.)

WOO HOO!!!!

The second blog posting today!!!!!!

So, I get home from the hotel's office after painstakingly posting my post (below) with all the pictures of our new home. (Make sure you scroll down and read that post ah, it took me hours to take the pics and edit them)

Then, I realize I can somehow steal borrow wireless from someone in my neighborhood! This is revolutionary! That means I can skype with you all at home! (If the kindly neighbor continues to leave his/her wireless unprotected).

Anway, back to some backdated pictures of my life here in Luxembourg.

Last Sunday, at the town center, at one of the very few restaurants open on a Sunday.

Again, food nothing to shout out loud about. Actually, quite bad. But also maybe it's cos I'm becoming a snobby chef's wife :p But no, really, the beef tartare at this place was disgusting. I think they even used tomato ketchup! And I love ALL kinds of beef tartare. This was just too badly done. William's steak was better, it seems.
(sidenote: I love beef tartare so much, I'm gonna try to make it next week. William's recipe sounds easy enough, and I've got a tiny little blender for the olives and capers and onions, then I'm gonna use my hands to mix it with the raw minced beef. If it's a success, you'll be hearing about it!)

Total damage: 55 euros

Streets of Luxembourg. Taken just to show you how quiet the roads are on Sundays. Not that it's much busier on weekdays. But Sundays are q-u-i-e-t.

There ARE tons of people hanging out at the parks, though. And Gandhi's very much loved here.
PEACE=LUXEMBOURG

Here's us on another quiet day, going out for a walk. Mi-ah, you see, the yellow bag's back in season and I've been using it everyday!

And to conclude this random blog post and randomer pictures, I present the salads I have been making :)

So you see, you all will have healthy food to eat when you come visit!
